Facilities Planning Information
Our mission in the School District of Loyal is to prepare our students to be successful. We could not be successful in our mission without the ongoing support of our staff, families and community - thank you!
Our vision is to provide an education which will promote the maximum intellectual, social, emotional and physical development of each learner and will help to develop individual talents to their fullest extent. This is our highest educational priority.
To help us reach this vision, we are in the process of long-range facilities planning. The goal of the School Board and Administration is to proactively identify educational and facility needs and to understand what the community’s priorities are for potential facilities improvements.
Last summer, the School Board hired HSR Architects to conduct a facilities study. A facilities study is a comprehensive review of our buildings and grounds, school infrastructure, and learning environments. The study identified potential areas of infrastructure, maintenance and educational improvements and have resulted in preliminary master plan concepts.
Our buildings and grounds are well-maintained, but some of our aging building systems need updating. Loyal school buildings were originally built in 1937. Seven building additions have been made over the past 83 years (1937,1953, 1958, 1963, 1968, 1975, and 1997). The last major educational improvement projects in our district were in the late 1990’s. Our educational spaces need to be reconfigured to create flexible and efficient learning spaces that enhance student learning and support teaching.
The School Board has been preparing for facilities updates with responsible financial planning. The time is right to be proactive and identify needs now so that we can plan for the future, maintain high quality, innovative, and safe educational facilities for all students, and be good stewards of our District resources.
All staff were invited to fill out a questionnaire last summer. Their feedback has been incorporated into the facilities planning and future staff engagement is planned.
Our promise to the community is to be open and transparent about the facilities planning process. We are sharing regular facilities planning updates in our school communications and in the local papers to keep citizens, staff, and families informed.
A community-wide facilities survey will be mailed to all households in our district next fall to ask for feedback on potential facilities solutions. With this feedback, the School Board and the District will determine the next steps in creating a plan that reflects the priorities of our community.
