Hi! I'm Donna Odeen, and am currently serving as the Family and Consumer Science teacher for the Loyal School District. I did substitute teaching at all grade levels for 20+ years. In the fall of 2016, the FACS spot became vacant. I decided to fill in for at least the rest of that semester. It turned into the rest of the year, and then became permanent.
I teach the junior high exploring classes where we dabble in the various areas covered by the FACS: culinary, sewing, child care, and interior design. We talk about relationships and goal setting. Career planning is another area we spend time exploring.
The high school curriculum includes child development, marriage and family, interior design, fashion and crafts, adulting, and a variety of culinary classes. Foods 1, Foods 2, Foreign Foods, Advanced Foods, and Baking and Pastry are the culinary classes being offered. The students seem to enjoy most learning how to prepare their own meals! The culinary classes continue to increase in popularity.
I am honored to work with our students, teaching them safety and creativity in the food preparation environment and life in general. It's some of the many skills our kids will need to be successful in their future endeavors.
Please contact me if you have any questions about our program.
